Home Nursing Care

Home care nurses provide home-based care for patients, typically in the form of follow-up treatment post-discharge from a hospital or other medical care environment. By not being facility-based, home care nurses get to be self-directed and practice efficient time management. Nursing homes offer help with custodial care -- like bathing, getting dressed, and eating -- as well as skilled care. Skilled nursing care is given by a registered nurse and includes medical monitoring and treatments. Though home health nurses can be Certified Nursing Assistants or Licensed Practical Nurses, most home healthcare agencies do require their home health nurses to have earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and to have worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for at least two years in a medical-surgical setting
